Yes! It blows me and my girlfriend's minds when people either go to another country with no idea about the culture or with the attitude that it shouldn't apply to them. Some of these societies are repressive and horrible, but to not know what you're getting into is nobody's fault but your own. And some cultures aren't "bad," they're just not American.
