As you get older, you attach considerably more weight to the decisions you make.
I never thought about this when I was younger.
When I was 19, I had no idea about anything really. Yet, I packed my car and drove from Niagara Falls, New York to Miami, Florida for my first radio job.
I had never been to Miami prior to the job interview. I didn’t take time to consider if I’d like Florida.
I did zero research about the place.
All I knew was that it was hot, humid and a stepping stone to a radio career that — alongside modicums of success — went largely nowhere.
No harm, no foul. Lots of living and learning.
The living and learning hasn’t stopped for more than 30 years, but the way I approach big decisions absolutely has. There’s no way I’m ever going to leap before looking like I did back then. That approach ended in too many failures I no longer have the time for.
