Not sure if you're familiar with it, but I was in Culver City the other day. It's sort between the ocean and central LA.

They do some good stuff there to try to make it more pedestrian and bike friendly. For LA, it's pretty darn good. But it's not that good because there are a ton of cars. The easy and doable answer is to close off a handful of blocks. But it will never happen. They get pushback on expansion bike lanes even a little.
