It's funny. So much is really up for interpretation. I like the term "personal finance" for many of the reasons you don't. I think we just don't stress the "personal" part enough and repeat blanket solutions that treat people like nothing more than part of whichever aggregate they fall into. To me, making it personal means it goes beyond money being the end all and be all. It takes to the worthy level you illustrate.
