I Don’t Feel Safe In Los Angeles

It’s less about crime, more about a concerning air of mistrust and hostility

I’m convinced and confident that if I fell and hit my head on the ground, knocking myself unconscious or worse, on most streets in Los Angeles, there’s a 30% chance nobody would stop to help me.

If I remained on the ground but alert, up the percentage to around 60%.

Both of these numbers, of course, should be closer to, if not zero.

Why do I feel this way?

Some people in this city are just assholes. A handful always have been.

LA has worn a bunch of others down, putting them into or around asshole territory. Given the general deterioration were experiencing here, this comes as no surprise.

However, it’s bigger than people being self-centered jerks.

We keep hearing about rampant crime in big cities, particularly Los Angeles and San Francisco.

However, violent crime is actually down in both places. In San Francisco, car break-ins and retail theft — two major concerns, especially among the extreme right and others who love to freak out about crime — have both plummeted.
