Do You Wish You Never Left the City For Suburbia?

Where we live has a lot, if not everything to do with money

As a lover (and walker) of cities and urban planning/studies, I have always been intrigued by where people choose to live.

I have an obvious bias.

I’ve spent most of the last 22 years living in either San Francisco, Santa Monica, or Los Angeles. Three places that — conveniently — form a spectrum of decidedly urban environments, yet are meaningfully different from one another.

We’ll save what could be an interesting explanation of the distinctions for another day.

At the moment, I’m interested in hearing about your experience of where you live and why you live here, as it relates to money.

Generally.

As in —

I live in Los Angeles and I can barely make ends meet. Here’s what I spend and what I want. Help!

Or —

I live in San Francisco and have a super low cost of living. Here’s how I’m doing it. By the way, I’m never leaving.

Specifically.

Large swaths of the population move from the city to suburbia every day of the week.
