Because electric cars help perpetuate the idea that the type of car is the problem not an over reliance and over abundance of cars and preceding and subsequent bad city planning in the first place. We should be focusing time and money on building better places. That will address issues such as climate change far more effectively.
And let's not even get into the "greenness" of EVs.
