As I think I indicated in the other comments I have made - and maybe more than in the article unfortunately - we pretty much agree.
This isn't about appreciating or loving your parents or being happy they're still here. It's not about things being black and white. However, for many people i grew up around they absolutely are black and white. There's nothing wrong with helping. Of course not. But to never budge from your parent's side, in part, due to the expectation and obligation that you'll need to take care of them someday - there's a ton wrong with that. And it's a thing. I didn't make it up.
